rat

The night I came back from Oklahoma I heard it. Gnawing on my house. I snuck downstairs but couldn't locate where the sound was coming from. I heard it the next night too, and every night that week I could hear it eating my house. One night it even came in and ate through a garbage bag to have some cantaloupe.

I was going to have to catch it.

The first night I left the live trap out it ate 3 hunks of cantaloupe, 2 slices of apple and a baby carrot without tripping the trap. But the next night I set the trap up differently and SNAP! somewhere in the wee hours of the morning I woke up to a kitten-sized rat trying desperately to get out of the cage.

In the morning I woke up, moved him to a larger "transport unit" took him to the state park and released him into the wild. Hopefully it will make a little wood rat family to raid campsites and steal everyone's cantaloupe.
