For my next sketchbook project illo I choose a local endangered critter, the Houston Toad. Although named after Houston, it has been decades since this little guy has been seen in Harris county, unless you count the Houston Zoo who has a head-starting program for this endangered amphibian. They also have a great webpage with more information, lots of resources, and a link to donate. To check out the webpage go here or watch a great video about the program here.
Opposite my illo is a great Rachel Carson quote, "One way to open your eyes is to ask yourself, "What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew I would never see it again?"
I knew that I would include quotes in my sketchbook project, I've been a quote junkie for as long as I can remember. The only self-critical bit I have about these pages is that although I like them individually, they aren't really working together as a spread. Part of me wants to rip it out and put it elsewhere, but I'm trying to let the sketchbook be a sketchbook so I'm letting it go. I won't rip out my pages, I won't rip out my pages. Oh how this project makes me miss command-z.
